Playscape: A huge playground with distinct areas for different age groups. For younger children: a large sandpit, concrete pyramid play structures, a rope climbing sphere, bucket and special needs swings, and a small water play area. On the other side of some open turf is the play area for older children, featuring a vast rock, a low concrete maze, sprinklers, sling swings, and two tall slides.

Safety notes: This is an immense playground – at 1.8 acres, it’s the largest in Central Park. If you are alone with multiple children, you need to keep them together. It is also pretty open and can get very hot.

Public restrooms: Yes.

Food & drink: There are hot dog carts sprinkled throughout Central Park. There is also the Ballplayers’ House just north of the Heckscher Ballfields (itself north of the playground).
