Playscape: A figure-8-shaped space designed by David Rockwell to inspire unconstructed, imaginative play using elements both traditional (sand, water, slides, ladders) and unusual (foam blocks, buckets, shovels, sandbags, wagons).

Safety notes: This is a big playground and it can get crowded. There is also not much shade; umbrellas surrounding the steps at the base of the playground provide some relief, but the play area itself is almost entirely exposed.

Public restrooms: Yes.

Food & drink: The South Street Seaport was devastated by Hurricane Sandy, and only some restaurants and food shops have managed to re-open; call ahead to verify. The nearby Fulton Stall Market and New Amsterdam Market are closed for the winter and will re-open in the spring.
