Focus: The history of the NYPD, the largest police force in the world.

Appealing to kids: The Junior Officers Discovery Room is a playroom on the first floor with “drivable” police vehicles, a two-story precinct building with slide, a timed running challenge, a fingerprint station, puzzles, and other interactive exhibits. On the second floor is a replica walk-in jail and wall for taking mug shots. Throughout the year there are special events for families (including Halloween and holiday parties), after school drop-off programs for children aged 6-12, and summer camp.

Admission: Adults $8; Seniors, Students, and Children over 2 $5; Museum Members and Members of Service Free.

Stroller policy: You may bring your stroller throughout the museum.

Elevators: Yes.

Changing table: Yes, in the ladies’ restroom on the first floor.

Food & drink: No, but there are plenty of restaurants and food trucks in the financial district (although note that some are closed on weekends).

Other kid-friendly amenities: Birthday parties for children are available. The museum store offers a large selection of NYPD merchandise (apparel, toys, housewares, souvenirs), as well as select toys by Melissa & Doug and Lego City.
