Focus: Poetry! Poets House is home to the largest independent poetry collection in the country. There is a library for reading and writing, a gallery of manuscripts and visual art, and a wide range of programs including readings and workshops/classes.

Appealing to kids: The Children’s Room is a charming and intimate space with hundreds of books, hand puppets, old-fashioned school desks, a card catalogue filled with poetry-inspired dioramas, and maybe even a vintage typewriter or two. Programming includes Tiny Poets Time on Thursdays at 10AM, special Saturday events, and free school tours.

Admission: Free.

Stroller policy: The Children’s Room is located on the ground floor. It is not large enough to accommodate strollers, but you should be able to park your stroller near the main door.

Elevators: Yes.

Changing table: Yes, in the unisex restroom on the ground floor.

Food & drink: No, but a very kid-friendly Le Pain Quotidien is located at the end of the block, on River Terr. and Vesey St.

Other kid-friendly amenities: Poets House is surrounded by parks: Teardrop Park is right outside its doors, and just beyond that Rockefeller Park.
