Playscape: A large neighborhood playground on two levels. On the upper level are a toddler play structure, sprinklers, and enclosed section with four bucket swings. Down below are a larger play structure for older children, and basketball and handball courts. There are also chess tables and many benches, and plenty of shady trees. There is no sandbox.
Safety notes: Although a sizable playground, there is only one gate for entry and exit, on York Ave. From the lower level, the swings are hidden behind the comfort house. This is a very noisy playground, thanks to its proximity to the FDR and 59th St. Bridge.
Public restrooms: Yes.
Food & drink: Except for the odd hot dog cart, this stretch of York Ave. is taken up entirely by residential buildings and medical institutions. Head to 1st Ave. for the nearest restaurants and food shops.
