Park features: Green space, a playground, a gazebo, gardens, basketball and tennis courts, plenty of shade.
Playground: The playground is divided into four sections: (1) a toddler play structure with a sandpit at one end; (2) a preschooler play structure accompanied by a wooden train; (3) a water play area with sprinklers, a hand pump, and a running “stream”; and (4) an advanced play structure for bigger children. In addition, there is a separate sandbox in the southwest corner of the park. The entire park is usually nicely shaded.
Playground safety notes: This is a long, large playground, making it difficult to keep track of multiple children who are at different ends of the park. The main entrance is on Greenwich St. near Duane St., but there is also a flight of stairs in the northwest corner of the park, by the restrooms and Parkhouse, leading to the BMCC campus.
Public restrooms: Yes, in the northwest corner of the park. There is a changing table in both the girls’ and boys’ rooms.
Food & drink: There are many restaurants and food trucks along Greenwich St. and in the neighborhood. There is also a Greenmarket on Greenwich, year-round on Wednesdays and Saturdays; a Food Emporium steps away from the park entrance; and a Whole Foods one block away.
Other info: The park hosts many special events, such as the free summer concerts and the legendary Halloween parade and party. Also, the gazebo may be rented, no permit necessary, for small events including birthday parties.
